The Crowd Surrounding the Court House Square

Here is a photo of the crowd of 8,000-10,000 whites that surrounded the Court House Square, April 6, 1931 in Scottsboro.

  1. It is amazing how huge the racism was back then. If you get to know the story, all those whites wanted the nine black males lynched for the accusations of them raping the two white females, Ruby Bates and Victoria Price. The court had to have the national guards protect the jail from this crowd. Its sad to see back then the hatred towards blacks.
